Derby winner Adayar best since Golden Horn and Oaks heroine Snowfall equal to Love and only bettered by Enable

DERBY winner Adayar has been rated as the best Epsom champ since Golden Horn in 2015 by Timeform.

Charlie Appleby’s colt streaked to a four-and-a-half length victory under Adam Kirby and was handed a mark of 125 by the expert handicappers.

It was a first Derby win for jockey Adam Kirby

Timeform also rated it the best performance by a three-year-old so far this season, despite 50-1 maiden Mojo Star finishing in second.

The mark of 125 puts Adayar right in the middle ranks of winners in the past decade.

Golden Horn was given the loftiest mark at 132 in the past ten years, while Adayar achieved the same mark as Appleby’s first Derby winner Masar in 2018.

Connections have earmarked the King George at Ascot as his next target with the St Leger on the long-term agenda.

Aidan O’Brien’s runaway Oaks winner Snowfall was rated 122 after her 16-length demolition in the fillies’ classic.

That’s the same mark given to last year’s winner Love and only bettered by superstar Enable in recent years.

Timeform ranked the win as one of the best in recent times and might have been awarded an even higher mark had the ground not been so soft.

ITV’s coverage of Royal Ascot next week will be split between the main ITV channel and ITV4 due to EURO 2020.

All seven races on all five days will be on one of the channels as well as Sky Sports Racing.

A sellout 12,000 punters are expected on each day and will all be required to have a negative COVID test to attend.
