“Hard not to be aggrieved” – Fuming Sean Levey hits out after false positive drugs test means he misses out on £20,000

FUMING Sean Levey has said lessons must be learned after his false-positive saliva test at Sandown last week.

The jockey has called for a full investigation after he missed over a week of action and most pointedly a potential £20,000 Racing League bonus for being the competition’s top rider.

Levey had been leading Racing League rider until last week’s final fixture which he was forced to miss

Levey, 34, was stood down last Wednesday after he was informed of a positive test for an amphetamine.

Confident he’d done nothing wrong, Levey immediately demanded to take a urine test to prove his innocence.

A negative result came back on Tuesday and Levey will return to the saddle on Friday at Haydock where he has five rides.

The BHA have refused to comment on the situation and would not even confirm whether they are still using the saliva tests that produced an incorrect result.

These tests were brought in last year to much acclaim but now surely have to be brought under the microscope.

Levey said: “Although I am happy to be back riding later this week, it’s hard not to feel

aggrieved at what has happened to me the last few days.

“Some might say I’ve been unlucky with the false positive happening just before the Racing League final, but I sincerely hope there are lessons to be learned from this and that similar things don’t happen to jockeys in the future.

“I appreciate the support I’ve received from trainers, fellow jockeys and my sponsor SBK throughout the past week.

“I look forward to getting back in the saddle this weekend.”
