Tyson Fury urged to fight Oleksandr Usyk in ‘a nice small ring’ as training partner Lawrence Okolie makes prediction

LAWRENCE OKOLIE has backed new training partner Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk – but he will need “a nice small ring” to do so.

Fury is lined up to unify all four world titles for the first time in heavyweight history against Usyk on April 29 at Wembley.

And he has now been joined by coach Sugarhill Steward, who has flown over to the UK for Okolie’s next fight.

Cruiserweight world champion Okolie – who defends his WBO belt against David Light – has been welcomed into Fury’s Morecombe gym.

And he offered a word of advice to the Gypsy King by urging him to minimise Usyk’s ability to box and move when they share the ring.

Okolie told talkSPORT: “I think Tyson Fury will win by points or late stoppage just because of the physicality, especially if they make it a small ring.

“In a big ring I think Usyk will be able to dance and pop left hands to the body.

“A nice small ring, Tyson gets hold of him, lays on him a bit, push and pulls him around.

“As well as it will be very difficult for Usyk to get past the length of Tyson. I think Tyson Fury wins that one.”

Fury has started training camp in Lancaster despite the historic undisputed title fight not yet being announced.

It comes after Usyk accepted his “greedy” offer of 70/30 in a bid to get the bout over the line.

But the Ukrainian hinted at negotiations hitting a snag in a worrying tweet to fans.

Although Fury’s promoter Frank Warren seemed to suggest otherwise as he celebrated Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Warren tweeted: “Arsenal 8 points clear! Even bigger news to come!”

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Body movement
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Sparring

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch comes with its own technique. Some punches require greater strength than others. For example, an uppercut is a powerful punch. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations which combine several punches in order to achieve a specific goal. A combination may have multiple parts. For example, a left hook followed by a right cross will cause damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

To defend himself from being attacked, a boxer uses his entire body. He does this by using his legs.

Legs

A boxer must use his legs to defend against kicks. When he’s hit, he raises his right leg and runs away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked in the side, he bends down if the attacker attacks from the front. However, if the attack comes from behind, he stands up straight and blocks the kick with his foot.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very effective because they inflict much pain. An elbow strike can be delivered directly or indirectly. Directly means that you hit your opponent with your forearm while indirectly means that you hit him with another part of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their hands to block incoming blows. They raise their fists high above their heads and point them in the direction of an attack. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. Knee strikes are often used for defense purposes.

Feet

Boxers should respond to being attacked by their opponent by standing back and delivering counter-attacks. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. In addition, when delivering a counter-attack, a boxer should keep his balance.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It dictates how he places his body and faces his opponent. There are many stances available to boxers. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must change his position, speed and rhythm in order to win the fight. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The timing of each punch determines the effectiveness of a combination. A combination is good if it starts with a strong punch then ends with a weaker one.

Sparring

Sparring is a training session that improves boxing skills. During sparring sessions, a boxer trains his mind as well as his body. In conclusion, the purpose of sparring is to learn how to fight and not get hurt.

To sum it all, boxing requires patience and dedication. You need to train hard and long in order to become a better boxer.
