Man Utd keen on Aaron Ramsey in swap deal as Juventus eye Paul Pogba transfer

MANCHESTER UNITED could sign Aaron Ramsey in a stunning swap transfer with Paul Pogba, according to reports.

The Welshman joined Juventus for free last year but has struggled to find his best form in Italy yet.

He started just nine Serie A matches before the league was suspended and racked up four goals and one assist across all competitions.

However, Ramsey admitted he needed to step out of his comfort zone and learn a new language after 11 years at Arsenal.

Now Calciomercato believe Juventus chiefs are prepared to use Ramsey – who returned to training with Juventus on Tuesday – as a makeweight to secure a deal to sign Pogba back.

Pogba returned to Old Trafford from Juve in 2016 for a British-record £89million.

But despite his success with France, winning the World Cup in 2018, he has largely underperformed for the majority of the four years since heading back to England.

The Manchester United man remains constantly linked with a transfer away again, with United wanting at least £100m in return.

Compatriot Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid is confident he can get the best out of the 27-year-old.

A move to hometown club Paris Saint-Germain is also on the cards while Inter Milan reportedly joined the race for his signature, too.

But after his successful four seasons in Turin – winning the title every year – Juventus are keen to be reunited with Pogba.

The report, though, adds that Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri is happy with Ramsey, who hit his best form just before the season was suspended.

And it also suggests the manager, and senior club officials, still see a future for the ex-Arsenal midfielder at the Allianz Stadium.

For that reason, the Italian giants would only be willing to let him go as part of a swap deal in exchange for a top transfer target, such as Pogba.

Player swaps are likely to be far more common this summer with clubs recovering from the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis and therefore looking to reduce spending in the transfer market.

Ex-United and England midfielder Paul Ince reckons his former side should sell “diabolical” Pogba because he regrets his move back to Manchester.

He told Paddy Power: “If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to take the club forward, to build and to instil the ‘United Way’ back into the team, then Pogba’s actions don’t reflect that.

“If you want the right attitude and mentality, and high standards, then sorry, but that doesn’t fit in with Paul Pogba.

“There’s been too many distractions, too many reports around him and his behaviour, so his time for me is up.

“Ultimately, he’s a distraction and his behaviour impacts and damages the rest of the team.

“Now, if he was performing out of his skin every week and changing games, you could forgive him for his behaviour even when he’s being a nightmare, but he isn’t, so why bother? If he’s not performing, just let him go, get rid.

“He probably expected a romantic return, but ultimately problems started from the outset. To me, it says that he’s known in the back of his head all of this time that he knows he’s made the wrong decision. He sensed that going back to Old Trafford was simply a bad idea.”
