Man Utd icon Alex Ferguson arrives at Doncaster racecourse in helicopter with ‘Roon’ on it ahead of Manchester derby

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Sir Alex Ferguson made a grand entrance to Doncaster racecourse.

The iconic Old Trafford boss touched down in a helicopter – that appeared to pay homage to one of his former players.

As Sky Sports cameras caught Fergie landing, ‘Roon’ could be seen plastered along the back of the chopper.

Ferguson is a massive racing fan and was at the track to see his horse Monmiral run in the 2.40.

The three-year-old is trained by Paul Nicholls and is looking to make it three wins in a row since making his debut in March.

Jockey Sean Bowen will be the man tasked with guiding Monmiral to victory in the 2m½f contest.

Fergie, 78, could well use the helicopter to nip back to Manchester for tonight’s derby.

Doncaster is around 70 miles from Manchester so it should not take too long for the former boss to get back to Old Trafford for kick-off against City at 5.30pm.

The helicopter was rented from Cardinal Helicopter Services and according to Flight Rader left from Manchester at 12.48pm.

It landed in Doncaster at 1.07pm, giving Ferguson enough time to check in and go through all Covid-19 safety protocols at the track before watching his horse.

Fergie last month celebrated a smart £12,500 win when his horse Protektorat surged home at Cheltenham.

However, it has not been all joy.

The £200million row over unstoppable racehorse Rock Of Gibraltar pierced the heart of Man Utd and ultimately led to the Glazer takeover.
