Andy Ruiz Jr undergoes surgery, delaying Deontay Wilder fight

Major setback

Andy Ruiz Jr's hopes for a highly anticipated fight with Deontay Wilder have been put on hold. The Mexican-American heavyweight recently underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, which will keep him out of the boxing ring for several months.

Successful surgery

Ruiz shared a video on Instagram, where Dr. Steve Mora conducted the surgery. In the caption, Ruiz expressed gratitude to God and thanked his fans for their patience and support during his recovery. He assured everyone that this setback is just a minor obstacle on his path to a major comeback.

Uncertain comeback

It remains unclear when Ruiz will make his return to the ring. Dr. Mora expressed his excitement on Instagram, stating that he looks forward to seeing Ruiz back in action soon.

Targeting Deontay Wilder

Ruiz has been eyeing a fight with Deontay Wilder for some time. Both fighters have engaged in verbal sparring, with Wilder making comments about Ruiz's weight and Ruiz firing back with confidence. Wilder's trainer, Malik Scott, also suggested that Ruiz would likely be Wilder's next opponent.

Recent victory

Ruiz's last fight was in September 2022, where he defeated Luis Ortiz via unanimous decision in Los Angeles. However, fans will have to wait to see him back in the ring as he focuses on his recovery.
