Conor McGregor has feuded Carl Froch in recent years

He criticised the UFC star’s punch power and it sparked the rivalry which is still brewing to this day.

Froch told Betting Sites: “Conor McGregor was talking s***, wasn’t he? Talking nonsense about me and piping up.

“Then I think he realised that actually, if he takes me on in my discipline in boxing, it’s going to be even worse than what happened to him when he fought Mayweather.

“Mayweather is a quality fighter, but he’s small, he’s a light boxer. I’m quite heavy and I’m even heavier now.

“Been retired for nine years and I keep myself in shape. So I think he realises that you don’t want to be getting in the boxing ring with me which is fair enough.”

Froch, 46, retired in 2014 after knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 at Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile McGregor, 34, is yet to return to the UFC for over two years and has not boxed since defeat to Mayweather.

And Froch added: “Conor McGregor, I’ve got to be honest, I’ve got loads of respect for him because he’s smashed it.

“He’s had some real tough and brave fights. He’s had his leg snapped, his head smashed in and he’s been choked out.

“He’s made himself a fortune. I’ve got a lot of admiration for him.

“But if a crossover fight between me and Conor McGregor could happen and people wanted to see it, that’s the important thing, then I’d happily participate in a boxing match.”

Froch addded: “Whatever McGregor’s got, if he’s blowing it and spending it and buying Lamborghini boats and being frivolous with it by gambling, I hope he isn’t.

“He’s earned his money the hardest way. He’s got his whiskey brand too but everyone says that whiskey tastes like s*** by the way.”

Conor McGregor was beaten by Floyd Mayweather in 2017

Boxing is based on the following skills:

  • Punching techniques
  • Techniques for protecting yourself
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Moving your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spares

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require more strength than others. An example of this is an uppercut, which requires tremendous force. A straight punch, on the other hand requires less power and is quicker than other punches.

There are also various punching combinations. These are combinations of punches that work together to achieve a specific goal. One combination can have many parts. For example, a left hook followed by a right cross will cause damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use their legs to defend against kicks. When he receives a kick, he raises his leg and moves away from the attacker. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. But if the attack comes in the back, he will stand straight and block the kick using his foot.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very powerful because they inflict great pain. You can either deliver an elbow strike directly, or indirectly. Directly means that you hit your opponent with your forearm while indirectly means that you hit him with another part of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their arms to stop incoming blows. They raise their fists high above their heads and point them in the direction of an attack. The attacker’s fist is then in their face.

Knees

Boxers who are subject to a punch to their stomachs, abdomens, or chests should bend at the knees to absorb the impact. A lot of boxers use knee strikes to defend themselves.

Feet

Boxers should respond to being attacked by their opponent by standing back and delivering counter-attacks. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

Boxing effectively requires a boxer to have a good stance. His stance determines how he defends himself. It determines his position and the direction he will face. Boxers have many options for stances. Here are some of the more popular ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Moving your body

Boxers must maneuver around their opponent to win fights. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

When a boxer throws a punch, he rotates in order to increase the reach of his arm. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A combination is good if it starts with a strong punch then ends with a weaker one.

Spares

Sparring is a form of boxing that aims to improve your skills. Sparring allows a boxer to improve his mental and physical skills. The goal of sparring is to learn to fight, and not to get hurt.

It is important to be patient and dedicated when learning how to box. To become a better boxer, you must train hard and for a long time.
