Here are the Essential Skills of Boxing

How to effectively box

Boxing is one of the most popular sports in the world. It involves two people who attempt to knock each other out of their heads. Different countries have different rules. There are three main types of boxing: Amateur boxing, Professional boxing, and Olympic boxing.

Amateur boxing is usually practiced at school, college or university. This boxing style includes sparring sessions without protection, using padded gloves. Usually amateur boxing competitions consist of three rounds of five minutes each. There are many styles of amateur boxing such as Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Karate, Judo and Wrestling, among others.

Professional boxing is usually practiced in gyms, clubs or stadiums. They wear protective equipment such as mouthpiece, nose guard, shin guards, elbow pads, knee pads, waist belt and groin protector. Professional boxing contests last six rounds and last for four minutes each. There are many styles of professional boxing: Boxing, MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), Kickboxing and Muay Thai.

Olympic boxing is done at the Olympics. Boxers are required to wear international standards-compliant protective gear. Each round lasts three minutes and is made up of eight rounds. Olympic boxing is limited to two styles: Light Flyweight and Heavyweight.

These are the basic skills required to box.

  • Punching techniques
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Move your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spare parts

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch comes with its own technique. Some punches require greater strength than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. A straight punch, on the other hand requires less power and is quicker than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations of punches which work together to achieve a goal. A combination may contain several parts. A left hook followed with a right-cross will cause injury to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use the legs to protect themselves against kicks. After receiving a kick, he will raise his leg and move away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked on his side, he will bend his knees if the attack is from the front. He will block the kick with his foot if the attack is coming from behind.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very powerful because they inflict great pain. You can deliver an elbow strike directly or indirectly. Directly, you strike your opponent with your forearm. Indirectly, you hit him with another portion of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use both their hands and arms to prevent incoming blows. They raise their fists high above their heads and point them in the direction of an attack. The attacker’s fist is then in their face.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. Knee strikes are often used for defense purposes.

Feet

A boxer should not be afraid to respond to an attack. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

A boxer must have a stance in order to be effective at boxing. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. There are many positions that boxers can adopt. These are some of our most favorite:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

A boxer must be able to move around his opponent in order to win a fight. This requires changing your position, speed, and rhythm.

Rotation

To increase his punching power, a boxer rotates when he throws a punch. Depending on what punch is being thrown, the speed of rotation varies.

Combinations

The timing of each punch determines the effectiveness of a combination. A combination that is effective starts with a strong punch, and ends with one that is weak.

Spare parts

Sparring is a form of boxing that aims to improve your skills. A sparring session is where a boxer trains both his mind and his body. Sparring is a way to learn how to fight without getting hurt.

Learning to box takes dedication and patience. To become a better fighter, you have to train hard and continue to work.
