Cricket Legend Warns Rohit Sharma is ‘Hanging on by a Thread’ as Captain of Indian Cricket Team

Greg Blewett Questions Rohit Sharma's Leadership Ability

Former Australian cricket opener Greg Blewett has expressed his doubts about Rohit Sharma's suitability as captain of the Indian cricket team. Blewett revealed on the WillowTalk Podcast that he was surprised Sharma was not removed from his leadership role following disappointing performances in recent tournaments. According to Blewett, the decision to keep Sharma as captain does not bode well for India's chances of winning the Cricket World Cup.

Rohit Sharma Under Scrutiny

Blewett admitted his concerns about Rohit Sharma's leadership abilities, stating, "I am worried about India's ODI captain. I really am." The former cricketer believes that Sharma has not been able to get the job done for India in crucial moments, as they consistently fail to come out on top in World Cups. Despite playing an influential role in the team, Blewett questions whether Sharma is the right candidate to lead India to victory.

Potential Replacements for Rohit Sharma

When asked about potential replacements for Sharma as captain, Blewett mentioned KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. However, he pointed out that Rahul has been struggling to find a place in the Test team, and Pant is currently sidelined with an injury. Many are speculating that former captain Virat Kohli could be the next in line for the role, but Blewett noted that Kohli did not take up the captaincy when Rohit was unavailable for the fifth rescheduled Test between India and England last year, suggesting that Kohli may have moved on from that position.

Blewett Questions Sharma's Place in the Playing XI

Blewett has also raised concerns about Rohit Sharma's batting performance, suggesting that his selection in the playing XI is primarily due to his role as captain. He expressed doubts about Sharma's abilities, stating, "I don't know whether you can go back to him now. I just see that Rohit is just hanging by a thread. He is getting a game at the moment because he is captain. And I don't know whether that’s the right way to go."

India vs Pakistan Match Called Off Due to Rain

Meanwhile, today's highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan was called off due to heavy rainfall. The game is now scheduled to resume on Monday from 10:30am. The Asia Cup, hosted by the PCB, is being held in a "Hybrid Model" with India playing all their matches in Sri Lanka due to their refusal to travel to Pakistan. Despite talks of shifting the remaining matches to Hambantota due to heavy rains predicted in Colombo, the Asian Cricket Council has decided to stick to its original itinerary.

Amidst the rain delay, discussions surrounding Rohit Sharma's captaincy continue, with growing skepticism about his ability to lead India to victory in the Cricket World Cup.
