Brighton Eyeing Red Bull Salzburg Star Lucas Gourna-Douath as Moises Caicedo Replacement Amid Liverpool and Chelsea Bidding War

Brighton & Hove Albion are on the lookout for a replacement for midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is attracting interest from Liverpool and Chelsea. The Seagulls have set their sights on Red Bull Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath to fill the void left by Caicedo's potential departure.

Prioritising Gourna-Douath

Brighton have identified Lucas Gourna-Douath as their top target after Liverpool reached a British record £111 million deal with the Seagulls for Moises Caicedo. However, Chelsea are ready to raise their own £100 million offer, with Caicedo reportedly favoring a move to the London club.

Resigned to Losing Caicedo

Brighton are resigned to losing 21-year-old midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer. As a result, they have shifted their focus to 20-year-old Lucas Gourna-Douath as his potential successor in midfield.

Rising Star

Lucas Gourna-Douath, a France Under-19 international, joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 from Saint-Etienne in a €15 million (£13 million) deal, breaking the club's transfer record. He has since made 35 appearances in all competitions, with 33 of them coming in the previous season.

Compared to Pogba

Gourna-Douath has been praised for his talent and has even been dubbed the "new Paul Pogba" due to his impressive skills and shared history with the former Manchester United star. Like Pogba, Gourna-Douath trained at Torcy, the same Parisian club, before moving on to more prestigious academies.

The Frenchman has previously been linked with clubs such as Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, and RB Leipzig.
