Everton Condemn Online Abuse Towards Striker Neal Maupay After Fulham Loss

Everton Football Club has publicly shown support for forward Neal Maupay after he became the target of sickening social media abuse. The Frenchman, 26, was chosen by manager Sean Dyche to start in Everton's Premier League season opener against Fulham.

Disgusting Online Abuse

Following Everton's 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park, Maupay, who was substituted in the 72nd minute, shared a screenshot of a vile Instagram message he received. The message read, "Hi, I hope your mom is in grave!" Maupay condemned the abuse, stating, "This is what I get for not scoring. No one should ever deal with this."

Club Statement

Everton Football Club released a statement condemning all forms of personal abuse aimed at players, their families, and club staff on social media. The club is actively investigating the social media accounts that targeted Neal Maupay and encourages users to report and condemn any such abuse. The statement emphasized that discrimination and hate have no place in the game.

Dyche Defends His Player

In an interview with the BBC, Everton manager Sean Dyche defended Maupay's performance, highlighting the importance of getting in the right areas to score goals. Dyche stated that continued efforts would eventually lead to goals and victories.

Everton's No9 Dominic Calvert-Lewin was unavailable for the match due to injury, while new signing Arnaut Danjuma started on the bench.
