Walcott would link up with recent boss Ruben Selles

Walcott, 34, had been training at Reading‘s training ground in recent weeks.

The team is currently being managed by recent Southampton boss Ruben Selles.

And according to Reading Today, the clubs are “hoping” to complete the signing of Walcott as part of the preparation for League One.

The Royals dropped into England’s third tier after being relegated from the Championship last season.

The season was one of trouble for the club as they had six points deducted after the club’s “failure to fully satisfy a business plan agreed after a historical breach of the EFL‘s Profit and Sustainability limits”.

The rest of the team are currently in Spain on a pre-season training camp ahead of the new season.

Although this will not include the likes of Yakou Meite and Lucas Joao who have both left the club on free transfers.

The report states that Walcott was close to joining Reading in January but the move collapsed due to the club’s transfer embargo.

Walcott will bring a wealth of experience to the Select Car Leasing Stadium should he sign.

He would also re-unite with former England team-mate Andy Carroll.

The winger featured 47 times for the Three Lions over a ten-year period and netted eight goals.

Walcott made his name at Arsenal and made 397 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 108 goals.

He left the Gunners in 2018 in a £20million move to Everton but left the club for Southampton in 2021.

Last season he played 20 times in the Premier League and scored twice and assisted twice for the Saints.
