Watch Aubameyang score fifth Barcelona goal in three games vs Athletic Bilbao with ex-Arsenal captain in red-hot form

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG continued his red-hot form with a goal against Athletic Bilbao yesterday.

The 32-year-old has been on fire since quitting Arsenal for Barcelona last month.

The 32-year-old delights fans with his trademark celebration

Aubameyang hadn’t featured for the Gunners since December 6 when he made his Deadline Day switch, having been stripped of the Gunners captaincy by Mikel Arteta.

The Gabonese ace hasn’t looked back, however, already bagging five goals in his last three games for his new side.

He scored a hat-trick in last weekend’s 4-1 victory at Valencia, before grabbing another against Napoli in mid-week.

His latest effort set his side on their way to a resounding 4-0 thumping of Athletic Bilbao.

With the score still tied at 0-0 in the 37th minute, Dani Alves swung a corner into the danger area.

Gerard Pique saw a header saved by Unai Simon, with the rebound falling to Aubameyang.

The former Premier League Golden Boot winner adjusted in mid-air to acrobatically turn the ball into the back of the net.

He then performed his trademark front flip celebration to the delight of his new supporters.

This was the beginning of a rout in Catalonia, although it took until the 73rd minute for Ousmane Dembele to add his side’s second.

Luuk de Jong made it 3-0 as the clock ticked towards stoppage time, while Memphis Depay then added a fourth a few minutes later.

After the match, boss Xavi gushed over his side’s performance.

He said: “I expected it because the team is getting better and better, they are training very, very well.

“The opponent is an excellent team. I think we played a serious game. The feeling is very good and that is what we are working on. I am very happy.

“Obviously players with goals have joined – Aubameyang, Adama [Traore]. We have Dembele back. Memphis is coming back from injury and scores. Luuk comes back and scores. Scoring four against Athletic is not easy at all.”

Arsenal defender Gabriel recently confirmed Aubameyang’s in-house bust-up with the Gunners’ coaching staff.

He told Ohmygoal: “Aubameyang is in my heart, we all wanted him at Arsenal.

“It’s something that happened between him and the coaching staff, the other players weren’t in it.

“I said goodbye to him before he left, I hope he enjoys Barcelona, he is a very nice person with a big heart and I love him very much.”
