West Ham star Jack Wilshere mourns grandfather after his death and reveals he could not say goodbye due to coronavirus

WEST HAM UNITED midfielder Jack Wilshere is mourning the loss of his grandfather after being “unable to say goodbye” due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The England international, 28, took to Instagram to share a snap of his late “Grambo” late last night.

And even though current lockdown rules prevent him from being able to say “goodbye”, Wilshere vowed to “treasure” their “many great memories” forever.

The former Arsenal and Bournemouth ace wrote: “Today was a tough day, i lost my Grambo.

“Due to the current situation we were unable to say goodbye, but i know how proud he was of me and loved coming to watch me play.

“So many great memories that i will treasure forever.

“I’m happy you got to meet my children and your memory will live on for a lifetime.”

Meanwhile, last week the injury-hit Hammers star announced he was lending his name and support to a new children’s e-book called The Nightingales’ Song to raise money for charity.

It is about a team of underdogs that, under the guidance of Wilshere and a series of other British sporting personalities, become heroes in a time of difficulty.

The proceeds of the e-book sales will be donated to NHS Charities Together.

The Nightingales’ Song by Phil Clegg, with illustrations by Laura Hutchinson, £3.99, for ages 5+, published by Upside Down Books/Trigger Publishing, is available now from all major e-retailers, including Amazon, Google Play Store and Apple Books.
