F1 Star Sergio Perez Slams FIA for ‘Absurd’ Rule Change, But Lewis Hamilton Loves It

Controversy Erupts at Qatar Grand Prix

The Qatar Grand Prix was not without its fair share of drama and controversy. Safety concerns were raised as drivers struggled to cope with the scorching 44-degree heat of the Middle East. Oscar Piastri, Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon, and Logan Sargeant all faced health issues after the race.

Mandatory Stint Limit Implemented

Pirelli's concerns about tire blowouts led to F1 implementing a mandatory 18-lap stint limit. This decision came as a precautionary measure. Additionally, the FIA brought the kerbs around the track closer in order to prevent tire failure during the sprint race on Saturday.

Sergio Perez Criticizes New Track Limits

Red Bull's Sergio Perez was not pleased with the new track limits and called them "absurd." He believed that the FIA should have inspected the circuit before the race and that last-minute rule changes wouldn't improve the situation.

Lewis Hamilton Supports the New Kerbs

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton had a different perspective. He praised the new kerbs and believed they were beneficial. Hamilton found that going beyond the highest point of the kerb resulted in losing time, so he didn't see the need for track limits at this particular circuit.

Hamilton Fined for Breaking F1 Rules

Unfortunately for Hamilton, his race ended in a collision with his Mercedes teammate George Russell. As if that wasn't enough, Hamilton also received a £43,000 (€50,000) fine for breaking F1 rules by walking across the track to get back to the paddock.

Overall, the Qatar Grand Prix was filled with controversy and differing opinions on the new rule changes. While some drivers were critical, others saw the changes as positive and suggested implementing them at other tracks. The FIA's investigation into safety concerns will shed more light on the issues faced during the race.
