Former F1 Driver Paolo Barilla Transforms into Billionaire Pasta Tycoon

From the Fast Lane to the Pasta Empire

Paolo Barilla, once a well-known Formula One driver, has transitioned into a billionaire as the deputy chairman of the Barilla Group, the world's largest pasta company. After a successful motor racing career, Barilla decided to join the family business in 1990.

A Pasta Empire in the Family

Barilla, along with his brothers Guido and Luca and sister Emanuella, owns an impressive 85% stake in the Barilla Group. This Italian pasta giant operates in over 100 countries worldwide and holds the top spot in the industry.

From the Racetrack to the Boardroom

Before his prosperous venture into the family business, Barilla competed in Formula Two and Formula 3000 during the 1980s. He also achieved victory in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1985. Despite a short-lived Formula One career with Minardi, Barilla left his mark in the racing world.

Success on the Track and in Business

Barilla's racing career may have been overshadowed by his struggle to qualify in Formula One, but his determination and drive led him to excel in the business realm. Forbes recognized his achievements by including him on their billionaire list in 2018, estimating his net worth at $1.1 billion (£910 million).

A Brief Return to Racing

In 2014, Barilla made a comeback to racing, winning the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco in the Formula Three class. This victory showcased his enduring passion for the sport, even after dedicating himself to the pasta empire.
