Lewis Hamilton Opens Up About His “Love-Hate” Relationship with Formula One and Unread Mercedes Contract

The Mercedes Contract

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, recently signed a lucrative two-year contract with Mercedes worth £100 million. However, Hamilton has hinted that he may not have actually read the extensive 200-page contract.

A "Love-Hate" Relationship

In a candid interview, Hamilton revealed that he has a complex relationship with Formula One, describing it as a "love-hate story." While he underestimated his passion for the sport, there are days when he would prefer not to get into the cockpit. However, the duels with his team-mate George Russell continue to motivate him, forcing him to always be on his toes.

The Details of the Contract

When asked about the specifics of his new Mercedes deal, Hamilton acknowledged that it is a lengthy document with over 200 pages, comparing it to a book. Despite the daunting task of reading through all the details, Hamilton expressed his gratitude for the negotiation process with Toto Wolff, the team principal. Hamilton views Wolff as a great leader, making it easier and more enjoyable to discuss and haggle over the contract terms.

Hamilton's Current Season

Despite his contract negotiations and personal sentiments towards F1, Hamilton is currently ranked third in this year's standings, despite not securing a race victory.

Only time will tell how the love-hate relationship between Hamilton and Formula One will evolve, but fans can expect to see the racing legend on the grid until at least the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
