Lewis Hamilton's 2013 Mercedes Sells for £15 Million at Auction

Lewis Hamilton's old Mercedes has made history as the most expensive modern-day Formula One car ever. The 2013 speedster sold for £15 million at an RM Sotheby's auction in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Hamilton's Win in the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix Boosts Car's Value

Hamilton won the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in the vehicle, making it even more valuable. It was also the first Mercedes a Brit won since Stirling Moss in 1955.

Previous Record Holder Michael Schumacher's Ferrari Now Overtaken

The sale of Hamilton's Mercedes surpasses the previous record holder, Michael Schumacher's 2003 Ferrari F2003, as the most expensive modern F1 car. However, it is still not as costly as the most expensive F1 car of all time, the 1954 Mercedes W196R, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, which was sold for £19.6 million in 2013.

A Historic Achievement for Hamilton and Mercedes

Hamilton raced in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04 13 times and won the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in the car. This made him the first Brit to win in a Mercedes since Sterling Moss's victory at the 1955 British Grand Prix.

The 234mph F1 machine, which was Hamilton's main car for the season, boasts a V8 engine and a 0-60mph time of just 3.6 seconds. It is the only one of its kind ever sold outside of Mercedes.

Hamilton Praises the First Ever Grand Prix in Las Vegas

The historic auction in Vegas coincided with the first ever Grand Prix in Sin City, and Hamilton was a fan. He expressed his happiness with the race and praised the track for its great overtaking opportunities, proving the naysayers wrong.
