Gary Lineker Criticizes Final Round of The Irish Open as “Worst Day’s Golf”

The final round of The Irish Open left many viewers feeling disappointed as it failed to live up to expectations. Even Gary Lineker voiced his frustration as he took to Twitter to express his displeasure.

Gary Lineker: A Passionate Golf Fan

Known for his love of golf, English football legend Gary Lineker did not hold back in his criticism of the final round of The Irish Open. In a tweet, Lineker described it as the "worst day's golf" he's ever seen at a professional tournament.

A Real Dud of a Final Day

While some may deem Lineker's comment melodramatic, the truth is that the final round of The Irish Open was indeed lackluster. Swede Vincent Norrman emerged as the unexpected champion, starting the day in 21st place but delivering an impressive final round of seven-under 65 to seal the victory.

Missed Opportunities for a Playoff

It was not just the overall performance that disappointed. Hurley Long had a chance to force a playoff on the last hole but missed an eagle putt, ultimately settling for a birdie. Shane Lowry, on the other hand, finished in a respectable third place with a solid four-under round of 68.

McIlroy's Implosion

Rory McIlroy, a fan-favorite, had a challenging round after a rain delay. He started strong with birdies on the first and fourth holes but struggled after finding the water on the seventh and recording a double bogey. Despite a birdie on the 14th, McIlroy failed to ignite his game in the heavy weather conditions and even found the water again on the 16th, finishing the round with a shocking treble bogey.

At the end of the tournament, McIlroy finished well back in the field with a two-over round, ending the event at a disappointing -9.

As the final round of The Irish Open left much to be desired, it was undoubtedly a disappointing day for both players and fans alike.
