Devastated horseracing owners ‘in pieces’ after highly-rated I Like To Move It dies on chasing debut

A highly-rated horse named I Like To Move It tragically died on his chasing debut, leaving his owners devastated. The former Greatwood Hurdle winner suffered a fatal injury after the final fence at Uttoexeter on Sunday.

Glittering career cut short

I Like To Move It, who was just six years old, had a glittering career, winning a total of seven races including three at the prestigious Cheltenham Festival. He also won the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton by a massive 17 lengths. However, his chasing debut was his last race, as he tragically passed away.

An emotional tribute

I Like To Move It was owned by Anne-Marie and Jamie Shepperd, who signed him up after an impressive showing at Aintree in 2020. Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and ridden by son Sam, the horse earned £211,754 in prize money from 16 starts. Following the tragic incident, Shepperd paid an emotional tribute, saying, "He was such a great horse. He’ll be sadly missed. He really did take us on a journey and it’s just so strange to think we won’t see him again."

A devastating loss

According to Shepperd, I Like To Move It was a gentle and easy horse to work with. The entire yard, including trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies, were devastated by the news, with Sam reportedly "in pieces."

Tributes pour in

Tributes also poured in on social media, with fans expressing their condolences. One fan said, "Enjoy the tall sweet grass in heaven 'I Like To Move It'. Deep condolences to all your connections." Another fan simply stated, "So so so sad RIP."
