The documentary will lift the lid on the turbulent career of three-time Flat champ jockey Murphy

The documentary, by the makers of Rooney and Supersonic, will follow the turmoil that followed after champion jockey Murphy’s drugs positive.

Three-time champion Flat jockey Murphy, 27, is currently serving a 14-month ban for lying over a trip to red-listed Mykonos in 2020 and two failed breath tests.

A top trainer for The Queen and Qatari Royal Family, the doc will also show Balding, sister of BBC host Clare, trying to find the next equine superstar.

The journey takes you on the rigours of daily work at Kingsclere and the tension at huge meetings with millions on the line.

In one scene Balding can be heard shouting ‘how did we f*** that up? How many times have we done it, for God’s sake?’ to one rider.

Another segment promises to take viewers into the mega money world of the sales ring.

There, sums well into the seven figures pass hands in search of the next sensation to trail a blaze through the sport.

Summing up what the show is about, those behind the show wrote: “With exclusive access to top UK trainer Andrew Balding and his stables in Kingsclere, we follow the yard’s fortunes (and misfortunes) as they search for the next equine superstar.

“They prepare runners for owners such as The Queen and the Qatari Royal family, targeting the world famous Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot, as well as the richest international events in the Middle East and the USA.

“The series has exclusive access to the sport’s young superstar, Oisin Murphy, who in episode one bids to become Champion Jockey for a second consecutive year, despite testing positive for cocaine use, and having to appeal a potentially lengthy ban.

“Oisin learned his trade at Kingsclere and remains Andrew Balding’s jockey of choice.

“Horseracing is a world of Sheiks, Kings and Queens, high rollers and billionaires.

“It’s also a world of grit and working class heroes. Of actual blood, broken bones, sweat and tears.

“It’s also about the characters we’ve found and their respective journeys, like stable lad Abdul, a Sudanese refugee who made the miraculous journey to England on foot, boat and underneath a lorry.

“His affiliation with horses in Africa gained him a job at Kingsclere and he has led horses up at Royal Ascot.

“In episode two however, during a Covid lockdown, Abdul abruptly hands in his notice to head back to Africa in the search of his younger brother, who he lost during their escape from the militia that killed his entire family 15 years ago.

“We believe narratives like this illuminate the show and imbue it with that ‘must watch’, ‘sticky’ element that will capture the attention of a wide audience beyond the key horseracing fanbase.”

Punters were united in joy at the prospect of the doc showing what really happens behind the scenes.
