Forgotten superstar set to make audacious comeback after illness

The Story

Former 1,000 Guineas champion Mawj is ready to make a thrilling return to racing after several months on the sidelines due to illness. The highly acclaimed filly, who triumphed in the prestigious race at Newmarket earlier this year, has been sorely missed by fans and trainers alike.

Impressive Debut

Mawj's victory in the 1,000 Guineas was no small feat – she defeated subsequent winners of both the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Royal Ascot races, including the talented Tahiyra. Jockey Oisin Murphy, who rode Mawj to victory, hailed her as exceptional and expressed his eagerness to see her back in action.

Disappointing Setback

Unfortunately, Mawj's triumphant return to the track at Royal Ascot was thwarted by a chest infection, forcing her withdrawal from the Coronation Stakes. The infection proved to be severe, keeping her out of competition for an extended period.

Ambitious Plans

Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has set his sights on prestigious races for Mawj's comeback. The filly is being considered for the Sun Chariot at Newmarket or the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland, both of which offer great opportunities for her to showcase her skills. If successful in either race, Bin Suroor hopes to take her to the highly anticipated Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita in November.

Historical Success for Godolphin

Godolphin, the well-known racing stable, has a proven track record in the Breeders' Cup Mile, having won the last two editions with their horses Space Blues and Modern Games. As they prepare for the upcoming season, Godolphin will rely on Mawj to fill the void left by the retirement of this year's Derby and St Leger winners, Adayar and Hurricane Lane respectively.

Looking Ahead

The two-day Breeders' Cup event is scheduled to take place at Santa Anita on November 3, and racing fans are eagerly anticipating Mawj's potential participation and the chance to witness her return to glory.
