Frankie Dettori BANNED after Champions Day Heroics as Half the Winners Break Rules at Ascot

World's Most Famous Jockey

Frankie Dettori has been hit with a 16-day ban following his impressive performance on Champions Day. The renowned jockey was found to have broken whip rules during his thrilling win on Trawlerman in the Long Distance Cup. Dettori also broke whip rules in the very next race, where he finished as a runner-up on Kinross.

Multiple Violations

It has been revealed that three out of the six winners at Ascot breached whip guidance. In addition to Dettori's ban, Sam James was also banned for his ride on 22-1 Poptronic. David Allan, who beat Kinross on Art Power, received an eight-day ban for going over the whip limit.

Consequences for Dettori

As a result of the bans, Dettori will not be able to participate in the lucrative Melbourne Cup, which takes place in Australia on November 7. The jockey was found to have used the whip once above the permitted level of six on both Trawlerman and Kinross.

Sour Taste

While Dettori's last-to-first ride on King Of Steel in the Champion Stakes wowed the crowd, these bans have left a sour taste. It is worth noting that Ryan Moore, who narrowly lost in the Long Distance Cup, did not break any rules.

Double Penalties

Dettori's bans will prevent him from participating in Class 1 races. The bans will be in effect from Tuesday, November 7 to Saturday, November 11, and Monday, November 13 to Wednesday, November 15 for his Trawlerman ride. He will also be banned from Thursday, November 16 to Saturday, November 18, and Monday, November 20 to Friday, November 24 for his actions on Kinross.

TV Appearance

Despite the bans, Dettori will be able to appear on ITV's I'm A Celeb, where he is rumored to be earning £500,000 for his appearance.

Whip Review Committee's Decision

Regarding Dettori's Trawlerman ride, the BHA whip review committee stated that he "used his whip once above the permitted level of six from just inside two furlongs out." The committee also noted that because this was a Class 1 race, the penalty was doubled. For Kinross, it was found that Dettori "used his whip once above the permitted level of six from approximately two-and-a-half furlongs out."
