Frankie Dettori: Verry Elleegant could still blast into Arc contention despite retirement talk

I’M having a day off today before a big weekend for me back at Doncaster and at Longchamp.

It was great to get a winner with Mimikyu in the Park Hill on Thursday.

Dettori enjoyed a nice winner at Donny on Thursday and has some big rides coming up this weekend

I hope you were all on.

She won well and the next step for her will be Champions’ Day at Ascot at the end of next month.

I expect the filly she beat into second yesterday — Eshaada — will be there for the rematch and to try and defend her crown.

But we’ve always liked Mimikyu and she is still improving. I do think there is a Group 1 in her.

I’ve been booked to ride the exciting Chaldean tomorrow in the Champagne Stakes and, of course, I will be hoping to ride my seventh St Leger winner on Haskoy.

I’m also riding Kinross tomorrow in the Park Stakes. They are three lovely rides to look forward to.

Donny has been good fun this week. It was great to see some of my old mates riding in the Leger Legends race on Wednesday.

I rode with Kieren Fallon, Gary Bardwell and Seb Sanders for years and we always had a good bit of banter in the weighing room, as well as competition on the track.

Today I’ll be watching with interest to see how The Platinum Queen (2.35) gets on in the Flying Childers.

She showed she’s a really speedy filly when she led them all a merry dance early in the Nunthorpe before getting tagged by Highfield Princess late on.

This looks much easier now she’s back among her own age group, so a repeat of her performance at York would make her tough to beat. I think she’s a strong favourite.

If there is one to throw down a challenge it could be Trillium, who looked impressive when winning the Molecomb at Goodwood.

It’s a shame Stradivarius won’t be able to defend his Doncaster Cup this year. He won both times he turned up in this race and cruised home in style last year, which was another of his great moments.

The rain clouds are circling and that means the ground should finally come right for Trueshan (3.10).

It’s a case of the more rain the better for him and we know when he gets his conditions, he’s a hard horse to beat.

He will be in lots of doubles and trebles today and won’t let punters down.

It’s Arc Trials day in France on Sunday and I’m looking forward to riding Verry Elleegant in the Prix Vermeille.

She clearly needed her run in Deauville last time out as she had been off since April and I wasn’t hard on her when I knew she wouldn’t win.

I am sure we will see a different horse on Sunday. She is a multiple Group 1 winner Down Under and could yet blast into the Arc picture.
