From humble beginning to best of his generation – ‘amazing’ Paddington all set for Juddmonte at York

Rapid rise to stardom

It's hard to believe that an ordinary handicap in Ireland could produce a horse of a generation, but that's exactly what happened with Paddington. Out of the 20 runners that day, only five have ever won a race, and Paddington was one of them. Since then, he has gone on to win a staggering £1,636,680 in his next six races. This rapid rise to stardom has cemented his position as the main man at Ballydoyle, and he is now all set for York's blockbuster Juddmonte next Wednesday.

A relentless winning machine

Paddington has become a relentless winning machine, with odds-on bets already being placed on him at Coral. Despite a shaky start as a two-year-old at Ascot, where he got 'stage fright', he has since embraced the big occasion and won four straight Group 1s. From the Irish 2000 Guineas to the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, Paddington has never looked truly challenged. His impressive winning streak has left many wondering if and when it will come to an end.

A love for racing

It's clear that Paddington simply loves his racing. Trainer Aidan O'Brien has spoken highly of him, stating, "He's an amazing horse really and is progressing from run to run, that's all he has done all year." O'Brien acknowledged that Paddington had a rough start as a two-year-old, but after a good break, he returned to the track and won easily at the Curragh. With no doubts about running him again, O'Brien believes that Paddington's love for racing will continue to shine at the Ebor Festival.

Competitors to watch out for

While Paddington is the odds-on favorite, he will face tough competition at the Juddmonte. Frankie Dettori will be riding Mostahdaf, the Prince Of Wales's Stakes winner, after regular rider Jim Crowley was banned. Other notable competitors include former Derby hero Desert Crown, Bay Bridge, and Andrew Balding's course and distance winner The Foxes. It's sure to be an exciting race to watch!

Here are the current odds for the Juddmonte via Coral:

  • Desert Crown: 9-2
  • Alflaila: 10
