Who is Frankie Dettori?
Lanfranco (Frankie) Dettori was born on December 15, 1970 in Milan, Italy.
He is the son of Sardinian jockey Gianfranco who went on to make a big name for himself as a prolific horseracing winner in Italy.
Detorri got into horse racing at a young age after his father bought him a Palomino pony.
At 13, he left school to focus to work as a stable boy and apprentice jockey, later moving to the UK.
He quickly became the first teenager to ride 100 winners in one season and by 16 he had his first major official wins in Turin and Britain.
After these initial victories, winning became synonymous for Detorri which included a number of winners in Group 1 races and achieving the impressive feat of winning all seven races on a single day at Ascot Racecourse – one of the highest racing achievements
Dettori announced in December last year that 2023 would be his final year of professional riding.
He is expected to call time on his riding career after the 2023 Breeders’ Cup.

Detorri is the proud father of five children: Leo, Ella, Mia, Tallula, and Rocco.
Of all of his children, Detorri’s youngest, Rocco, was the one he considered most likely to ride professionally.
But second eldest, Ella is also likely to “follow in his footsteps” and “loves” the idea of her riding.
Ella competed at Goodwood Festival with the competition results ending in a dramatic dead-heat with judges.

Catherine is the wife of Frankie and is a stay-at-home mum.
The couple met after Catherine was working at Haydock.
They got married in July, 1997 in New Market England with the family currently residing in Stetchworth near Newmarket, Suffolk.
