SPARE a thought for this poor Cheltenham Festival punter who thought they were onto a winner – until everyone pointed out their big mistake.
The racing bettor posted a photo of what they believed were 16-1 odds for Allaho to win the Ryanair at next month’s meeting.
The Willie Mullins-trained superstar is favourite for the race and generally an odds-on 8-11 chance.
Posting a photo of the market, the punter said: “Sky Bet special, somewhat beats the 8-11 offered at the moment.
“16-1! I’ve had a few quid on it so there is no £10 max etc.”
However, it always pays to read the small print, and a number of other punters who did just that spotted the bet’s glaring error.
Turned out the bettor was staking on the ‘what will happen first?’ market and not an outright Ryanair market.
The other odds available for ‘what will happen first?’ included Honeysuckle winning the Champion Hurdle at 1-2.
Then there was Shishkin to win the Champion Chase at 3-1 and Facile Vega to win the Champion Bumper at 8-1.
The punter needed all of those odds-on favourites to flop just for their bet to have a chance.
Those clocking the error let the bettor know in no uncertain terms.
One said: “Give him a break people, the man thought he was onto a good thing.”
Another posted: “He’s on the wind up here surely.”
While a fellow Facebook user wrote: “He’s had a f***ing mare here.”
After a barrage of messages under his post, the punter then returned to acknowledge their error.
They said: “Proper laughing at my last post. I have to win a prize for making you all laugh!
“Let’s go Allaho! I’m having a shocker today.”
And they later added: “Dreadful day.”
