Jockey Kevin Lundie handed two-year-ban after second positive cocaine test

JOCKEY Kevin Lundie has been hit with a two-year-ban after a SECOND positive test for cocaine.

The rider returned to the saddle after a first six month suspension last season.

Lundie hasn’t been seen on a track for nearly a year

But a urine sample from a test at Windsor last September came back positive.

The sample he gave at Windsor on September 7 contained a metabolite of cocaine, at a level of 370 nanograms/ml, well over the limit of 100 nanograms/ml.

Lundie was also slapped with a further three month ban after he failed to attend a remote interview about the investigation when in Dubai.

That ban will run concurrently to the two-year punishment that is back-dated to last September.

During the hearing Lundie, who has 30 winners to his name, apologised for his actions through his lawyer who confirmed Lundie would likely reapply for his licence when his ban ends.

Lundie has previously ridden mainly for David Evans and Mick Appleby.

At the end of the hearing, the BHA’s Philip Curl hoped Lundie would seek help.

He said: “We’re aware that alcohol and drug addiction is an illness and can be a very serious illness.

“You’re fully entitled to battle it yourself but we do ask you to further consider seeking the extraordinarily good help that the Professional Jockey Association can offer.

“Battling these demons alone is not easy in trying to achieve a long-term and satisfactory answer.”

Just last week fellow rider Joe Colliver was hit with a six month ban after testing ten times over the threshold.

A number of other riders have been banned for testing positive for cocaine in recent years.

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy, who denies taking the drug, returned from a shortened ban earlier this year, while the likes of Kieran Shoemark and Benoit de la Sayette have also been sidelined.
