‘That would put a smile on your face’: Gordon Elliott delivers stable update ahead of Cheltenham

GORDON ELLIOTT could not hide his delight after Tiger Roll’s sparkling performance in a key piece of work ahead of next week’s Cheltenham Festival.

The five-time festival winner and dual Grand National winner was given a final spin under Davy Russell ahead of Cheltenham next week – and Elliott was over the moon with what he saw.

Tiger Roll looks in good condition going into Cheltenham

He said: “That would put a smile on your face, wouldn’t it?

“We’ve been training him for Cheltenham and he’s in great form. We couldn’t be any happier with him. He worked really, really well.

“There are no negatives with any of them who worked. I’m happy with them all, but Tiger would fairly catch your eye going by there.”

Elliott took 38 of his festival horses to Leopardstown for a workout on Monday, with a further 27 set to be put through their paces on Tuesday.

Among those others to get their final run out before the festival, were Elliott’s two potential Gold Cup contenders, Galvin and Conflated.

Galvin is a certain Gold Cup runner and is a rock-solid 7/2 shot for the festival’s blue-ribband race next Friday.

Conflated won the Irish Gold Cup when last seen but his Cheltenham target is yet to be decided, with both the Gold Cup and the Ryanair both still in contention.

Elliott said: “Davy was very happy with Galvin – he quickened twice and looked great.

“Conflated was a bit keen with Jack [Kennedy], but he said he felt very, very good. He had one little blow that should leave him spot on, so we’re very happy.

“There’s been no call on where Conflated will run yet. I’ll have a chat with Michael and Eddie and we’ll see.”

Another to catch Elliott’s eye was classy bumper horse American Mike, who is ready to take on a fierce challenge from Willie Mullins’ stable in the Champion Bumper.

Elliott said: “Jamie [Codd}was thrilled with American Mike, who worked with Fury Road.

“He said American Mike was spot on and felt great. Fury Road might not always run like a machine, but he’s one of the best work horses we have in the yard.”
