Watch jockey, 62, literally fly over finish line after losing control of horse in jaw-dropping end to race

THIS is the incredible moment a 62-year-old jockey literally flew over the finish line after losing control of his horse.

Brave Shoichi Kawahara was seen crashing to the ground at the end of a race in Japan.

The jockey, 62, has lost total control as the finishing post nears
Kawahara is sent flying over the front of the horse
He tries desperately to hold onto the reins with his left hand
But he eventually admits defeat and crashes to the ground

The jockey was aboard six-year-old mare Vintage Pearl when cameras captured the moment he went airborne.

It is not clear how Kawahara came to be in such a position, but footage shows him flying over the top of the horse’s head.

With this right arm flailing in the air, he just about managed to keep hold of the rein with his left hand as he passed the post.

That meant he officially finished the 7f race and was not deemed to have been unseated.

However, his heroic effort was in vain, as the horse finished 11th of 12 in the contest at Himeji, Japan, on Tuesday.

Fortunately, both jockey and horse were uninjured.

Kawahara even went onto to ride his remaining runners that day and, according to racing expert Graham Pavey, won a race the next day.

Although Kawahara was ultimately unable to hold on, racing this side of the world has seen some equally amazing feats lately.

Kawahara is still going strong at the age of 62

James Bowen rode a miraculous winner on a horse that was going wild after a rein snapped.

Kevin Brouder was last month credited with pulling off the greatest recovery ever after going totally airborne on a horse before regaining control.

And Hugh Morgan was praised for his incredible horsemanship after recording a winner on a horse that hit 499-1 after he lost his irons.
