Who won the Welsh Grand National? – 3.10 Chepstow full Result

SECRET REPRIEVE landed a gamble to win the Welsh Grand National.

Evan Williams’ stayer was backed into the 5-2 jolly and made the most of his light-weight to saunter home.

Secret Reprieve went to the lead early but Wedge always had control

Jockey Adam Wedge had to do it the hard way as his saddle slipped severely in the home straight.

It was a second win in a row in the big race for the Welsh after waiting 54 years before Potters Corner last season.

Secret Reprieve got into a tussle with eventual runner-up The Two Amigos a long way from home but was always doing enough.

Wedge managed to steer him home to win by three lengths with Yala Enki back in third.

Wedge said: “The girth came undone, but thank god we’ve got the over girth and everything stayed in place!

“All credit to the horse, he’s a real warrior.”

After taking two crunching falls earlier on the card, Wedge was just about in one piece for the feature.

He added: “It’s a mans sport at the end of the day and you’ve got the grit your teeth and get on with it.

The winner was punted into the 5-2 jolly

“I’ve got a boss that’s got great belief in me.

“Since I moved down to Evan’s 11 years ago this is the one race he’s always wanted to win.

“It’s a home race for him, and means a hell of a lot to him and to me to do it for him.”
