‘World’s Best Horse’ Makes £24 Million in First Year at Stud

Flightline's Racing Career

Flightline, the John Sadler-trained superstar, has made a remarkable £24 million in his first year at stud. The undefeated horse won all six of his races, including four Grade 1 contests. He made headlines with his impressive 19-length victory in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar and went on to win the Breeders' Cup Classic. This success led to him being named the world's best horse in 2022 by Longines and Timeform.

A Star in Retirement

After retiring from racing, Flightline has entered the breeding world with high hopes of becoming a superstar like his British counterpart, Frankel. In his first season at stud, Flightline covered a carefully chosen selection of 152 mares. Among the mares who visited him are notable names such as Curlin's Voyage, Belvoir Bay, Bar Of Gold, and Unrivaled Belle. With a stud fee of £158,000 ($200,000) per mare, Flightline has already earned an astonishing £24 million in his first year of retirement.

The Real Money in the Bloodstock Industry

While Flightline's on-track earnings reached £3.3 million, his stud earnings have far surpassed that amount. This highlights the significant financial potential in the bloodstock industry. A prime example is Dubawi, who earned a staggering £41 million in 2022 by covering 165 mares at a rate of £250,000 per mare. Frankel, another legendary racehorse, has also seen great success in his stud career, siring nine Group 1 winners so far.

The Future of Flightline's Progeny

As Flightline's progeny mature and enter the racing scene in the coming years, there is great anticipation to see if they will match their sire's talent. If they do, Flightline's stud fee is expected to continue growing. Similarly, Frankel's stud fee has increased significantly over the years as his offspring continue to thrive.
