And after the match he headed to the pool where he dived in with his kit still on.

He was joined by a big group of screaming ball girls and he beamed from ear to ear as he swam around.

Alcaraz, 19, then got out of the pool – only to jump back in with his arms locked around his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

It is tradition for winners of the Barcelona Open to jump into the swimming pool at Reial Club de Tennis – the venue where the tournament is held.

Previous winners include the likes of Rafael Nadal, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl and his coach Ferrero.

Alcaraz was crowned Barcelona Open champion for the second year running.

He beat Nuno Borges, compatriots Roberto Bautista Agut and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, before dispatching Brit Dan Evans in the semi-final.

Alcaraz will next be playing at the Madrid Masters 1000, where he is the top seed.

He has a bye in round one before facing the winner of Emil Ruusuvuori and Ugo Humbert.

After his Barcelona win, Alcaraz said: “It is incredible.

“To feel this energy and lift the trophy in Barcelona in front of my family and friends, and most members of my team are here as well.

“Playing this level and to lift the trophy in front of them is a good feeling for me.”

Despite his victory Alcaraz will remain second in next week’s world rankings, with Novak Djokovic in top spot.
